5 out of 5 stars 21st century magic! !   June 27, 2008

Right folks- hear me out..... I bought this today along with a JBL radial micro loudspeaker. The iPod is superb, and docked in the speaker, it is utterly fantastic. Forget the negative reviews, this technology is unbeatable. I'm a bit of a techie ( yes-even tho i'm female and mid 50s....) as I've worked with computers and taught IT since the mid 80s.
My 4000 plus tracks uploaded within 20mins, the volume/sound is great (set it yourself) on earphones, and on the speaker it just blows me away. I've used iTunes since its inception - bought tracks, loaded up CDs, (gave all CDs away to reduce clutter...), burnt CDs, backed up iTunes library, used iPod shuffle etc - brilliant, easy peasy. Marvellous technology. Well done Apple!

Sorry Amazon - even though I've bought tons of stuff - books, CDs etc- from you, I bought this on impulse from PC World. The iPod was much more expensive than Amazon at 160, but I couldn't wait. Positive reviewers from Amazon helped...:-) !!!!

Ok so, i bought my first one of these about a year ago, i had it....ooohhh id say a good 4 days before it died on me.......seriously, i had about 11 songs on it and it just packed in after a few days.So having more money than sense i binned it and replaced it within the week, now this new one has been working perfectly up until a few days ago when it decided it didn't want to work any more, same problem with this one as i had with previous iPod.

They are really very good when they are working properly, maybe i just have horrible luck, or my computer somehow murdered it.

Having ownded this little device for about 2 weeks now I am totally in love! It's easy to use, sounds great and can store everything that I can throw at it! The battery life is unbelievable and has survived on one charge until tonight! Value for money is amazing, This has to be one of the best purchases I have made in a long time!

3 out of 5 stars Sound quality questionable   June 20, 2008

Basically happy with this iPod because of the huge capacity for 140. However, there is a crackle in the sound quality on certain tracks. I thought it was the quality of my MP3s or earphones at first but after checking them on a laptop I can confirm that it's the iPod. Either I got a dud one or the other reviews I've read that say Apple have changed the chipset (and subsequently reduced the sound quality) for this model are correct. An OK buy, but check the sound quality when you receive it.

Oh... and not to forget Windows 2000 users. There are no drivers available for this iPod for Windows 2000. I spent a lot of time looking and could not find any way of connecting the iPod to a W2K machine. If you use the Winamp option, I believe that you need to reformat the iPod (I didn't go down that route so can't confirm).

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy an ipod classic   June 17, 2008

The new ipod classic suffers with poor sound quality when compared to the older generation ipods as they use a different audio codec chip. It's not a minor problem, I found mine unlistenable to after a while and am going to return it. There is plenty of information on the web about this.
