5 out of 5 stars Buy one!   January 7, 2008

I was lucky enough to get one of these for Christmas and it is truly a thing of wonder. It feels great, looks great and sounds great. I downloaded a couple of games and videso from iTunes and the screen quality is superb. I have also ripped my own CDs and added some podcasts - all very straightforward in iTunes. The only slight annoyance is that some of my CDs do not have cover art and that spoils the 'Cover Flow' effect (which shows all your CD covers, just as if you were flicking through your own music collection). But basically this a whole entertainment system in one tiny device - you could not ask for more at this price.

this is a replacement from my shuffle which broke down. took it to the ipod genius and it was beyond repairable.

i was choosing between this and the itouch, but couldn't justify with myself buying the itouch, i rather have the iphone.

the 3rd gen nano has functions such as video playback, and viewing photos.

8gb is enough for me, as i always change my play list everyday.

battery life is good, i had it on for the night to help me sleep and less then a quarter of the battery was used.

i just found something out today, i was using my old ipod earphones since i had the nano, as the wires was almost falling apart. i changed it to the one supplied with the device.
Apple has changed the earphones, the newer ones are better quality, and you can hear the base more from playback and is more louder then the older ones.

so those of you needing to buy new replacement earphones you should by the newer style ones that came with the nano, as the older ones are quiter and you have to turn the volume to max.

so far i only used 4gb of my ipod, about 600 songs, three music videos and some photos.

i also suggest buying accessories for the nano, such as the leather case, and the remote control. its endless how you can customize your nano.

4 out of 5 stars Great machine...shame about itunes   December 15, 2007

I ordered this for my teenage daughter's as replacement for the sansaE280 which only worked for 21 days!! We have never owned an ipod before

Pros
Great small, sleek and stylish design.

Cons
Not being able to change the battery

The HORRIBLE & FRUSTRATING itunes software. I consider myself to be computer literate, but oh boy, did it take several hours to work out how to upload her music files (already stored in mp3 format on the computer) to her ipod!! OK it was late on Friday night and I was tired after a long week at work, but it was so frustrating. It took ages to find how to upload music, and not my credit card details as the registration process kept taking me to this screen, a cynical ploy on marketing Apples itunes store me thinks.

This is the reason I deducted a star, the lack of a user friendly interface, introduce a drag and drop facility and then it would be a 100% sure fire winner.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic device and so stylish   November 30, 2007

This is our thrid iPod Nano (first of this new generation) and it is fantastic. Love them or hate them, you cannot grumble about what iPods offer.

Being hyper-critical, the screen is probably about as small as you should sensibly go to watch videos without requiring 20-20 vision and a magnifying glass; iTunes is not the best software going for sync'ing media between a media device and a PC; most of the built in software to the iPod is not of any real use (doubt many user sync their contacts and no point of an alarm if you need to have earphones to hear it).

As a complete package though, it is superb and relatively easy to use. It is reliable and it is so stylish too. An all round winner!

4 out of 5 stars Don't by without seeing one in real life first.   October 22, 2007

I highly recommend tracking down one of the new nano video i-pods before purchasing. The first thing that hit me was just how small it was. Previously before video smaller always = better. Now, perhaps not so.

The screen is small and to be honest you're not going to spend a long time watching videos without straining your eyes. THe upside is that it has the same resolution as the bigger i-pods, which means no loss of quality, just size.

As always there's no replaceable battery, so once it's dead it's pretty much game over. Saying that the flash memory i-pods have much better battery life than ever before.

It's a very nifty piece of kit that just wasn't possible a few years ago. It looks cool and it sounds cool, just don't buy it for the video functionality alone.
