4 out of 5 stars good stuff   July 9, 2010
V. Deepchand (uk)

Very good item, appropriately priced, works well. I have it now for over a month and I cant find anything wrong with its working. sound quality is good, and it does more than what Apple's own product does ( Apples own product does not let you change the playlist / operate menu from the remote, this product does so.) - and its cheaper as well.... what else could you ask for.

Downsides - the dock adaptors it comes with are a bit wrongly labelled, and dont work with my iphone 3gs/ ipod nano - 3rd gen. - video version. - but actually , you dont need these dock adaptors, I am using mine without any adaptors.

Iphone 3gs - doesnt charge with this product ( says this accessory is not compatible with iphone) - it will play music though. The way around this is to buy an adaptor -from apple store - which connects between iphone 3gs and the dock and lets you charge it at the same time.

all around, nice equipment, I prefer this to apple's own product ( although I am an apple follower!!!!!)

2 out of 5 stars laggy response, no onscreen feedback, does not work with 3G nano   July 3, 2010
voy (Greenwich)
When i recieved my first unit I thought it was broken - I inserted my 3G nano, the screen lit up and dimmed after a few seconds. I pressed every button on the remote, but there was no reaction from the ipod or dock. I thought that either the dock or the remote was broken and oredered a replacement.

The replacement exhibited the same behavior. I tried it with my older 3G ipod 20GB (which was not supposed to be supported) and it did work to some extent - i could make it play/pause, skip to the next song and adjust the volume. I then manually selected a song on the nano and inserted it into the dock. In this position I could adjust the volume, and that's it - no play/pause, no skip/prev.

Even the funcitons that work do so with a huge lag - changing the volume takes 2-3 seconds after you press the button. When the lag is that big, it is only natural to continue to press buttons, the dock seems to memorise all the keys pressed and continues executes them after you've stopped pressing buttons. I guess I could get used to it, but why should I?

The dock works more or less OK with my iPhone (in flight mode). There are some picularities too: 1) volume bar is displayed when you adjust the volume, but the "knob" is stuck in the center and doesn't move, even though the output volume does change; 2) when iphone goes to sleep, you have to take it out of the dock to unlock it; 3) when you scroll up/down in lists, the second you begin to scroll search input appears at the top of the screen shifting everything down, which makes it hard to keep track of the cursor - you have to pause for a second.

I had a feeling that the sound quality was somewhat degraded compared to standard ipod dock or headphone output

I think this is junk. I can't believe all the 5-star reviews..

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good, though dock adaptor flawed   June 2, 2010
Mr. Robert D. White
Well it works well and sound is fine. But it and another one I bought first (gear4) share a comical design flaw where the little plastic dock adaptor for the 4th generation Nano is constructed mirror image the wrong way round and so unusable. Fortunately the one that came with the IPod can be used in this dock (though not really in the gear4 one I had got first (from John Lewis)). So that saved returning another dock and buying an Apple one.

Oh and it might have been helpful if this one had come with a cable outputting to two phonos - luckily I had one.

The gear4 one had amplification, I suppose to power speakers. This one does not and that suits me fine - I just want it to go to the amp and don't much fancy cheap and nasty amplification. Also this one will work without connection to the mains.

And the gear4 one had cable for connection to a TV etc. This does not. Again, not a concern for me.

Overall I recommend this.

5 out of 5 stars really good value for money.   May 24, 2010

absolutely brilliant! I was looking for quite a long time for something like this; all iPod docks I've looked at either have terrible speakers or cost the earth! The Pure is small, simple and easy to use. It's compatible with all the iPods my family have and is really simple to use. The remote is a tad on the small side, maybe slightly too easy to loose! but all the buttons are clearly labelled and are quite large buttons. The dock itself holds the iPod quite well, all the wiring comes out the back so is easy to hide away. It looks simple and stylish and does exactly what you want!

5 out of 5 stars What's up dock?   May 21, 2010
C. Brabner (The South West, England)
I did a bit of research before buying but couldn't find anything to touch this in terms of price, features and looks. You will have seen through other reviews that you'll need to buy a 3.5mm to 2 phono lead to connect to your stereo so don't forget! This unit sounds great, has good volume and a useful remote control. It looks pretty good and not cheap/plasticky at all. It comes with a range of dock 'templates' so you can fit your own type of i-pod to it (I always wondered how different i-pods fitted to these!). I've had this for a while now and am still pleased with it so it's stood the test of time. I'm pretty sure you won't be dissapointed if you buy this.
