Brilliant July 27, 2010 Sally (UK) Perfect for my Eurocamp holiday. This is small and in a convienent travel bag that holds adapter and remote. It runs off mains power or batteries. It charges iphone at the same time and the sound is of sufficient quality that I am happy. Hubby says it is not the best sound quality but he is a purist. I am very happy with it. Occassionally I have had an 'not supported by iphone' message but only 5%or less of times used and the message doesn't actually stop it working properly or affect the phone. Nice and compact, possibly too heavy for a plane but brilliant for camping/caravan/bedroom.
Good sound but poor bass July 21, 2010 Mr. J. M. Varnham (Canterbury, England) I bought this product as a portable ipod player for when we are travelling, as I didn't want to rely on having to use a mains power outlet. It looks good and feels nice quality, with an impressive weight to it. The sound is OK, but I was disappointed with the fullness of the sound. The bass is not enough and when the volume is switched up it sounds a bit tinny. Being over 60, I am not a drum & bass fan, so if I find the bass response poor, I guess most fans of modern music will too.
That being said, I suppose the manufacturers had to make a trade off between sound quality and battery life, which is reasonable at about 10 hours for a set of 4. So if you don't really need the portability of this unit, I would go for something with a bit more power.
Great sound and really portable June 14, 2010 M. Brady (UK) I looked at a number of docking stations at John Lewis ranging from around £40 to over £200. My main criteria was that I wanted something with good sound but portable to take on holiday. The sound quality from other more expensive devices eg Bose are better (but not 2 or 3X as good, as the price might suggest). I have an iPhone 3GS and an iPod Classic and both work perfectly. I say perfectly, because I was told that many of these devices ask you to switch the iPhone to Airplane mode, and indeed in John Lewis that did happen. However, the unit I have does not ask me to do this and calls can be received to the iPhone whilst on the dock.
The sound from the On Stage lllP is excellent, some reviews say that base is not good but I do not find that. I would say that sound across all ranges is good. The volume could do with going a little higher, but is excellent for a bedroom, hotel room or office where I am using it.
The remote control is multi function, allowing you to operate functions on the iPhone / iPod.
At £88 this is an excellent docking station, very portable and excellent sound quality.
The power of Bose for half the price June 11, 2010 S. Robinson Impressive kit. I was after a ipod dock for about the £100 mark, and had unfortunately tested the Bose sounddocks at twice the price. Then I tried this little beauty. Good base, perfect trebel, and best of all, its portable, very portable.
Worth a purchase in my book. Excellent piece of kit.
Only small down side, it doesn't charge 3Gs iPhones.
Small device with big performance May 25, 2010 Florian Obermaier I'm using the JBL On Stage IIIP Loudspeaker with a brand new Ipod Nano. And I can say that I'm really impressed about the sound. Of course it cannot compete with a full HIFI-equipment, but the sound is clear and very powerfull for such a small speaker.
The remote works pretty good to control the I-pod, although sometimes it is better to scan through the menu or playlist directly on the player itself. With the remote it can take some time to scan through a long playlist.
I haven't tried yet to use the speaker with batteries, so I can't tell anything about it. With power supply from the socket the I-Pod is charged even if the speaker is switched off. If its battery is full it switches to net supply mode.
Also usefull for traveling: the speaker comes with a case for transportation, with enough space for the speaker and the I-Pod.
Also included are several adopters for different Apple applicances like differend versions of I-Pods and I-phones. Unfortunately the latest I-Pod-generation like mine was not included, but at least the adopter delivered with the I-Pod fitted into the speaker.
All in all the JBL On Stage IIIP Loudspeaker is a highly recommendable device for everybody searching for a small speaker with good performance and a reasonable price, to use with an I-Pod. I don't have an I-Phone, but it says it works with it.
