4 out of 5 stars Good buy   September 2, 2010

Excellent gadget. I bought this model because I wanted the huge memory, and I'm glad I chose it. Although the product itself is easy to use, i'm a few months on from when I first bought it, and I have found the sensitivity of the dial has decreased and is sometimes unresponsive.

Also, it is annoying to only be able to download music etc from the main computer it is synced to. It would be far more useful if the sync worked both ways - i.e. I could import media files from friends and family computers and transfer them to my own library. I know the homeshare facility was created to help with this, but I've found this doesnt always work and you have to be on the same internet connection at the same time to do this.

In addition, the majority of the itunes apps/games are only compatible with the ipod touchscreen. Which is also annoying. But this is more of a gripe with itunes than the product itself.

1 out of 5 stars Great product - awful delivery service   September 1, 2010

Apparently Amazon feel that delivering items to a different city 15 miles away from your home town is acceptable. I don't.

5 out of 5 stars Sound not a problem   September 1, 2010
A. P. Mcdowell
I've been looking to replace my 80g iPod as it's full up and I still have about 500 vinyl albums left to digitise. Getting the 160g seemed a no brainer until I read some of the comments about low sound levels. Before parting with my money, therefore, I went to a well known retail chain where iPods are on display and can be tested. I took my own headphones (Sennheiser CX 400 II) which have tight fitting 'in ear' ear-pieces and, crucially, a built-in volume control. With these I found no problem with the sound levels. Yes, the levels are a little lower. With my 80g I usually had the headphone volume on the minimum setting. With the 160g I had to move it up to about half way to achieve similar sound levels but I couldn't take maximum volume, that was deafening. So, with a decent set of headphones the reduced sound levels should not be a problem. So, with my new iPod now only being half full instead of completely full, I have no hesitation in giving this 5 stars. It's a beautiful little piece of kit which will enable me to carry my whole album collection on something not much bigger than a cassette (and I remember my first Walkman, and pockets bulging with cassette tapes!)

1 out of 5 stars Out of date and unreliable   September 1, 2010

Having owned 3 iPod classics that have all died within 24 months of purchase - I would strongly advise people to look elsewhere. There is no support for FLAC or OGG audio files. The screen is now outclassed by other players (e.g. Cowan). The poor relibility is a big negative.

4 out of 5 stars Apple iPod classic   August 31, 2010

The iPod classic is everything I expected, huge capacity and as easy to use as all previous click-wheel iPods (I also have a 2nd generation Nano). My only complaint would be the volume - it is difficult to hear audiobooks when at the gym even on maximum volume (although this is partly because the gym music is too loud!)
